Authorities have reopened the Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border Nov. 21. The border was closed from Nov. 13 after unidentified men from the Afghan border area opened fire on Pakistani border forces. The incident killed one Pakistani soldier and wounded two other Pakistani guards. Both governments have termed it a terror attack though no group has claimed responsibility.
A heightened security posture may continue on both sides of the border. Further rounds of fighting in the area are possible. Shipping and supply chain disruptions may recur in case of prolonged closures.
The Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing is approximately 100 km (59 miles) southeast of Kandahar city, Afghanistan, and about 100 km (62 miles) northwest of Quetta, Pakistan.
