Warning

Event

Officials have tightened COVID-19 curbs in parts of Chongqing as of Nov. 8 due to COVID-19 activity. Authorities have designated several locations in Banan, Bishan, and Yuzhong districts as high- or medium-risk areas. Residents in high-risk locations must remain in their homes for at least three days, though stay-home orders are in effect at some risk sites in Yuzhong District for seven days. Officials require people in medium-risk areas to remain within their community; travel is restricted to one person per household daily to purchase essential goods. Exceptions to movement restrictions are possible for urgent medical care with permission.

In all risk areas, district governments prohibit public gatherings, close nonessential businesses, and restrict entry and exit. Officials require residents to undergo testing for the first three days; additional testing will occur in areas that remain designated risk areas.

Security personnel will enforce checkpoints near risk areas to ensure compliance with movement restrictions. Public transport disruptions are likely in high- and medium-risk places; authorities often close subway stations and detour buses. Flight disruptions are possible at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG) due to decreased demand. Business disruptions are likely in high- and medium-risk areas, including industrial zones, which could lead to production delays and supply chain disruptions.

Advice

Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Confirm appointments and transport arrangements. Remain cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers.
