Warning

Event

Activists affiliated with Dal Khalsa, a Sikh separatist organization, will hold a protest march from the State Gurdwara temple to DC Chowk in Kapurthala, Punjab State, beginning 15:00 Nov. 3. Participants seek to commemorate the 38th anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and denounce the perceived lack of accountability of those responsible for the violence. The demonstration may be well attended.

Authorities will likely monitor the protest march and may attempt to disperse the gathering if it is especially disruptive. Clashes between activists and police cannot be ruled out. Localized transport disruptions are probable along the march route.

Kapurthala is around 60 km (37 miles) southeast of Amritsar.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a precaution. If clashes break out, immediately leave the area and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent related transport disruptions. Adhere to all instructions issued by local authorities.
