Italy: Public transport workers in Rome plan strike Nov. 11

Unionized public transport workers plan strike in Rome, Italy, 08:30-12:30 Nov. 11; service disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Public transport workers in Rome affiliated with five unions plan to strike 08:30-12:30 Nov. 11. The CGIL, CSIL, UIL, UGL, and USB Private unions are taking action over pay, safety, and other working conditions.

The strike will affect the ATAC network (buses, trams, underground, and Termini-Centocelle railway line), the Rome local public transport (TPL) routes, and the Cotral network (long-distance buses, and Roma-Nord and Metromare railway lines).

Unless averted, public transport disruptions and consequent travel delays are likely; services that do run could be overbooked. Higher demand for alternative forms of transport could result in increased traffic congestion and reduced taxi availability during the labor action.

Union members typically stage protests during such strikes and demonstrations are possible at transport hubs in Rome Nov. 11. Any such gatherings will likely pass without major incident.

Advice

Confirm all urban public transport reservations Nov. 11; do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Check local media sources for up-to-date information on regional public transport information. Consider alternative transport options to mitigate travel disruptions and allow extra time to reach destinations. Limit exposure to likely protest sites and demonstrations due to potential transport delays.
