Officials continue to respond to a passenger aircraft crash near Bukoba Airport (BKZ), Kagera Region, the afternoon of Nov. 6. The Precision Air (PW) ATR42-500 aircraft was traveling from Dar es Salaam to Bukoba (flight PW 494) with 43 persons onboard when it crashed into Lake Victoria near the airport early Nov. 6. At least 26 people have been rescued. Casualty details are unclear. The aircraft reportedly crashed during adverse weather in the vicinity.
Disruptions to Precision Air and Bukoba Airport operations are likely through at least the end of Nov. 6. Emergency services are likely to remain in the area until the response has been concluded. Associated road closures in the vicinity of the crash site and airport are possible.
