UK: Unionized railway workers suspend strikes slated for Nov. 5, 7, and 9 /update 2

Unionized railway workers in the UK suspend strikes scheduled on Nov. 5, 7, 9. Strike in London on Nov. 10 to proceed as planned.

Warning

Event

Unionized railway workers affiliated with the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) have suspended strikes originally planned in England, Scotland, and Wales for Nov. 5, 7, and 9. The move comes after union leaders and rail company management agreed to resume negotiations. Nevertheless, railway officials expect that, due to the late notice of the strike suspension, rail service will still be extremely limited Nov. 5 with impacts potentially lingering into Nov. 7. A separate strike planned by RMT members employed by Transport for London and the London Overground for Nov. 10 will still take place as scheduled.

Available rail services will probably experience crowding, while significant congestion is likely on alternative means of transport. Further strikes are possible over the coming months.

Advice

Confirm rail service schedules and allow extra time for train travel in England, Scotland, and Wales on Nov. 9 and 7, as well as in London on Nov. 10. Consider alternative transport for critical travel.
