Angola: Unionized journalists members likely to protest in Luanda, Dec. 17

The Union of Angolan Journalists (SJA) has called for a protest Dec. 17 against restrictions on press freedom. The precise location and start time have not been provided; however, it is likely that protesters will gather in Luanda. Possible protest areas include the Santa Ana Cemetery Square, Largo das Escolas and Largo da Heroinas along Ho Chi Minh Avenue. Authorities canceled a similar planned march in Luanda, Dec. 10.

Heightened security is likely near the protest site. Clashes between demonstrators and police are possible. The protest action and response, which could include road closures, could result in ground travel and business operation disruptions. There is an incidental threat to bystanders should any violence occur.
