A magnitude-5.0 offshore earthquake occurred near Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara Province, 21:49 Nov. 20. The epicenter was about 65 km (40 miles) south-southeast of Gorontalo. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 155 km (96 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, and eastern Central Sulawesi provinces. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake, and significant damage is unlikely. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. The event has not prompted any tsunami advisories.
