Kenya: Opposition party coalition planned two separate protests at Kamkunji Grounds in Nairobi Dec. 7 and Dec. 12
Kenyan opposition party coalition to stage two separate protests at Kamkunji Grounds in Nairobi Dec. 7 and Dec. 12. Disruptions are likely.
Event
The opposition Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition plans to stage two separate protests at the Kamkunji Grounds in Nairobi Dec. 7 and Dec. 12. The purpose of the action is to denounce President William Ruto's suspension of four members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from power Dec. 2; the commissioners rejected the Aug. 9 presidential elections result, claiming widespread vote fraud and irregularities. Organizers have not yet announced the start time of the demonstrations.
Security personnel will almost certainly deploy to monitor any demonstrations and may attempt to break up disruptive gatherings. Localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest location. President Ruto's supporters may attempt to hold counterprotests near the demonstration site. Clashes between opposing groups of activists or between security forces and protesters cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Individuals in Nairobi are advised to monitor developments in the situation, avoid all protests or large gatherings due to the risk of associated violence, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
