Informational

Event

Activists from Pertubuhan Gagasan Inovasi Rakyat (PGIR) are planning to protest at the Parliament House in Kuala Lumpur from 07:30 Dec. 19. Participants are calling for the government to allow targeted Employees Provident Fund (EPF) withdrawals. Several dozen people could join the gathering. The Malaysian police have not given approval for the action and could take action against attendees.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security at the Parliament House and nearby areas as a precaution. Localized traffic and business disruptions are possible. Security forces may arrest participants if they consider any demonstration to be disruptive or if any rally lacks a public gathering permit. While the gathering will most likely pass off peacefully, clashes between police and demonstrators cannot be ruled out

Advice

Avoid the Parliament House Dec. 19 due to increased security measures and possible clashes. Plan for localized transport and business disruptions. If violence occurs nearby, immediately depart the area and seek shelter at a non-government building. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
