An explosion outside the military wing of the Kabul International Airport (KBL) killed at least 14 people and left at least 18 others wounded on the morning of Jan. 1. Reports indicate that a suicide vest was used in the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast; however, IS-K (Islamic State – Khorasan) is the likely perpetrator.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are affecting the vicinity of KBL. Ground travel delays are likely.
