Bangladesh: Bangladesh Nationalist Party to march in Dhaka Jan. 28 and Jan. 30-Feb. 1
Bangladesh Nationalist Party plans to hold marches in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Jan. 28 and Jan. 30-Feb. 1. Security-related disruption likely.
Event
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) plans to hold multiple marches in Dhaka, Jan. 28 and Jan. 30-Feb. 1 to denounce the current administration. On Jan. 28, the march will start at Shahjadpur and end at Malibagh Abul Hotel. On Jan. 30, the march will begin at Jatra Bari and end at Shyampur. On Jan. 31, the march will commence at Gabtoli and conclude at Mirpur 10 intersection. On Feb. 1, the march will start at Mugda and end at Malibagh. Previous well-attended demonstrations have attracted thousands of participants.
Authorities will almost certainly deploy some security along the march routes. Traffic congestion is likely on parallel routes. Clashes between activists and police, as well as between members of rival political groups, cannot be ruled out. While bystanders are unlikely to be targeted, they would face a significant threat near any violence. Localized disruptions are likely due to potential violence and increased security measures.
Advice
Avoid all BNP-related activities as a security precaution. If violence occurs nearby, immediately depart the area. Heed all official traffic and security advisories. Plan routes circumventing the march routes and allow additional time for travel.
