Authorities will increase security in parts of Mumbai, Maharashtra State, to facilitate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit on Jan. 19; Modi will be in the city to attend several development project inauguration events. Officials plan to deploy at least 5,000 security personnel in Mumbai's western suburban area.
Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from using several roads in the western suburban area, including the Western Express Highway (WEH), between the hours of 12:00-21:00; however, ambulances and certain buses will remain exempt. Local police have advised the public that traffic will likely be slow on the WEH's southbound lanes between 17:15-17:30 and northbound lanes between 17:30-18:45. Several traffic diversions and road closures will occur to facilitate the movement of Modi's motorcade. Officials will also ban the use of drones and other flying objects in areas near the Bandra Kurla Complex. Localized business disruptions are possible through the evening of Jan. 19.
