The decision comes after assurances from state government officials to meet several concessions, including a pledge not to privatize the power utility firms. The labor action led to limited power supply disruptions in parts of Maharashtra early Jan. 4. Union leaders may commence another work stoppage with little-to-no notice if they perceive that the government is reneging on its promises over the coming days.

Lingering electricity disruptions are possible as strike participants return to work.
