US: Activists to march in multiple locations Jan. 21-22 in support of abortion rights

Abortion-rights activists, including members and supporters of Women's March, Planned Parenthood, and NARAL, plan to hold protests in multiple locations throughout the US Jan. 21-22. The actions are to protest the Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that established a right to an abortion in the US.

The main protest is scheduled to occur at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin, starting at 13:00 Jan. 22. However, Organizers have announced the following protest dates and times:

  • Orlando, Florida: Orlando City Hall, 12:00 CST Jan. 21

  • San Francisco, Calif.: Phil Burton Federal Courthouse, 11:30 PST Jan. 21

  • Austin, Texas: Texas State Capitol, 12:00 CST Jan. 22

  • Boston, Mass.: Massachusetts State House, 12:00 EST Jan. 22

  • Dallas, Texas: JFK Memorial Plaza, 12:00 CST Jan. 22

  • Denver, Colorado: Colorado State Capitol, 12:00 MST Jan. 22

  • Miami, Florida: Miami-Dade County Courthouse, 14:00 EST Jan. 22

  • New York, N.Y.: Washington Square Park, 12:00 EST Jan. 22

  • Phoenix, Arizona: Arizona State Capitol, 13:00 MST Jan. 22

  • Washington, DC: Freedom Plaza, 12:00 EST Jan. 22

Thousands are likely to participate in some demonstrations, especially in Madison, Wisconsin, and Washington, DC. Heightened security is likely near protest areas, especially government offices. Counter-protests are possible; clashes between protesters and counter-protesters or between police and demonstrators cannot be ruled out.
