Warning

Event

Anti-abortion activists plan to participate in the annual March for Life demonstration in downtown Washington, DC, Jan. 20. Participants intend to gather in front of the Museum of Natural History starting at 12:00, where a rally will take place. Then they will march from 13:00 through the National Mall, around the US Congress, to the US Supreme Court. Tens of thousands are likely to participate in the demonstration.

Security personnel will almost certainly deploy to monitor the event. Traffic disruptions are likely on nearby roads through the evening of Jan. 20; increased crowding is likely on metro rail trains before and after the rally ends. The march will likely remain largely peaceful; however, isolated confrontations cannot be completely ruled out, particularly if opposing groups attempt to stage counter-protests near the march route.

Advice

Allow extra time to reach destinations in the affected area through the evening of Jan. 20. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Depart the area at the first sign of confrontation.
