Afghan Taliban officials reopen Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar Province as of Feb. 25. Residual transportation disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Afghan Taliban officials have reopened the Torkham border checkpoint in Nangarhar Province as of Feb. 25. The checkpoint borders Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in northern Pakistan. Afghan Taliban officials closed the border Feb. 20 in response to Islamabad's alleged failure to fulfill unspecified obligations.

Authorities will probably maintain heightened security measures around the checkpoint. Lingering transport disruptions are likely in the coming days as traffic normalizes. Further closures and intermittent disruptions to passenger and cargo transport remain possible.

The affected area is around 69 km (43 miles) east-southeast of Jalalabad, Afghanistan, and about 47 km (29 miles) west-northwest of Peshawar, Pakistan.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Reconfirm travel arrangements. Plan for lingering transport disruptions and possible ground shipping delays; seek alternative routes and shipping methods for time-sensitive cargo.
