Warning

Event

Several political parties, including the Indian National Congress (INC), will likely continue their ongoing protests in Kerala State through at least mid-Feburary to denounce the Feb. 3 proposal to amend tax provisions in the state budget. In recent days, activists have staged various demonstrations outside district collector offices and other areas across the state; on Feb. 7, political parties rallied outside the state assembly building in Thiruvananthapuram before police used water canon to disperse the crowds.

Any related demonstrations are likely to continue near prominent district and state-level government buildings, as well as the residences of legislators, public squares, and major thoroughfares. Dozens of participants are likely to attend such rallies.

Authorities will almost certainly monitor the gatherings and may attempt to disperse overly disruptive crowds. Clashes between police and activists cannot be ruled out. Demonstrators may march along or block roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions. Localized business disruptions are possible near gathering venues.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a standard security precaution. Depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow additional travel time near gathering sites. Plan accordingly for localized business disruptions. Heed all official transport and security advisories.
