According to reports, locals marched to a police station where an individual allegedly responsible for kidnapping a local girl was being detained. Protesters began throwing rocks at the police station; security personnel responded with live fire, killing at least nine people and wounding 14 more. The military was deployed to restore order and calm to the area, but tensions remain high. As of Feb. 24, no further violence has been reported; however, local authorities have tightened security measures in the town.
