Activists plan to rally near Dewan Orang Ramai community center in Balok, Pahang State, 14:30-16:30 Feb. 23 to show support for a foreign mining company that is currently engaged in a dispute with the government over radioactive waste disposal. Rally organizers assert that government restrictions on the company will negatively impact the livelihoods of employees. It remains unclear how many participants the event may draw. Balok is located approximately 20 km (12 miles) northeast of Kuantan.

Authorities will likely monitor the rally and may attempt to disperse it if organizers fail to obtain the necessary permits or demonstrators become unruly. Associated localized transport disruptions may occur in the afternoon of Feb. 23.
