A magnitude-5.4 offshore earthquake occurred in the coral sea near the Santa Cruz island region, Solomon Islands, at around 08:30 Feb. 8 The epicenter was about 91 km (57 miles) west of Lata. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 51 km (32 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout the Santa Cruz Islands.
