Warning

Event

Floods have led to road closures and related transport disruptions in Komani (Queenstown), Eastern Cape province, as of Feb. 8. Patients from the Life Private Hospital in Komani have been transferred to Life Private Hospital in East London. Residents of the nearby Silvertown low-income area have been evacuated. Overnight heavy rainfall has caused the Komani river and nearby Bongolo Dam to overflow, flooding certain low-lying areas. The nearby N6 highway is reportedly unaffected.

Transport disruptions are likely, with possible increased traffic along the N6 as motorists seek open routes. Localized business disruptions may occur in low-lying areas; some businesses might not operate at full capacity because of flood damage to facilities and some employees' inability to reach work sites. Further evacuations are possible.

Monitor local media for weather updates and related advisories. Confirm transport reservations and business appointments prior to travel. Confirm medical appointments. Make allowances for localized travel delays, as well as potential supply chain disruptions. Do not drive on or through flooded roads. Charge battery-powered devices in case prolonged electricity outages occur.
