Informational

Event

Labor activists, including members of the French Democratic Confederation of Labor (Confederation Francaise Democratique du Travail, CFDT), plan to protest in St. Pierre and Miquelon on Feb. 11. Participants will gather at Square Joffre in St. Pierre starting at 14:00; protesters may also march to other locations in the city. The purpose of the demonstration is to protest a proposed pension system reform that would increase the retirement age, as well as to make other labor-related demands of the government.

Demonstrators may also gather in other locations across the territory. Localized business and transport disruptions are likely during the gathering. While protests will probably remain peaceful, minor skirmishes between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Allow extra time to reach destinations near rally venues. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
