Suriname: Protesters plan to gather in Paramaribo Feb. 17

Activists plan to stage a protest in Paramaribo on Feb. 17. The demonstration will take place at Independence Square, near the Presidential Palace, to oppose government policies and denounce the rising cost of living. The time and duration of the gathering are unclear.

The security forces will almost certainly deploy to monitor the protest. Ground travel disruptions are likely in the area, and police-ordered road travel restrictions are possible. Skirmishes are also possible; however, significant violence remains unlikely.
