Australia: LGBTQ+ activists to rally in Melbourne from 17:30 March 31 and Sydney from 13:00 April 2
LGBTQ+ activists in Australia plan to rally in Melbourne from 17:30 March 31 and Sydney from 13:00 April 2. Increased security likely.
Event
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) activists plan to stage rallies in Melbourne and Sydney to mark the Transgender Day of Visibility. The events will likely attract dozens to hundreds of people. Organizers have confirmed plans for the following cities:
Melbourne: Activists will gather at the State Library Victoria from 17:30 on March 31.
Sydney: Activists will rally at Pride Square from 13:00 on April 2.
Related events are possible in other locations; however, no plans for additional events have been announced. Authorities will likely deploy additional security in the vicinity of the planned rally sites. Counter-protests are also possible. Heightened security measures may lead to some localized transport and business disruptions. While the rallies will likely pass off peacefully, isolated scuffles between activists, counter-protesters, and/or police cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Exercise caution if operating near the rally sites. Allow additional travel time in the affected areas. Heed instructions from authorities.
