Authorities in Ecuador have declared a state of exception in Esmeraldas Province as of March 4. Officials have declared a nightly curfew from 21:00 to 05:00. The measure provides security forces with greater flexibility in combating organized crime and will last until at least May 2.

Authorities may also establish security checkpoints. Law enforcement agencies may increase their patrols and/or execute warrantless searches on vehicles, persons, or premises. Localized business and transport disruptions are likely for the duration of the state of exception.
