Georgia: Activists demonstrating outside Parliament in Tbilisi, March 6

Activists protesting outside Parliament in Tbilisi, Georgia, March 6. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Protests have resumed in Tbilisi March 6 to denounce the proposed foreign agent bill. Several hundred activists are gathered outside Parliament, following previous demonstrations March 2-3. On March 3, around 35 activists were arrested during skirmishes with police. Further protests are likely in coming days as the bill continues its parliamentary process.

Additional police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the protests. Large numbers of people and associated security measures, including possible road closures and movement restrictions, will likely prompt localized transport disruptions. Additional isolated clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Check for disruptions and allow extra time for travel in the affected areas.
