Pakistan: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf calls for protest outside the National Press Club, Islamabad, from 14:00 March 28
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf party plans protest in Islamabad, Pakistan, from 14:00 March 28. Increased security likely; clashes possible.
Event
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) party supporters plan to protest outside the National Press Club in Islamabad's Sector F-6 from 14:00 March 28. Organizers are demanding the release of PTI social media head, Azhar Mashwani; party supporters allege he has been illegally detained since March 23. At least a few hundred people could participate in the demonstration.
Authorities will almost certainly increase security near the protest site and may attempt to forcibly disperse unruly crowds. Officials may also conduct mass arrests if activists defy orders to disperse. Protesters may march along or block roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions. Activists may clash with police and/or rival party supporters. Localized business disruptions are possible in case of significant violence.
Advice
Avoid the protest due to possible violence. If clashes break out, depart the area immediately and seek shelter at a secure nongovernmental building. Allow additional time near demonstrations. Plan for possible localized business disruptions through the evening of March 28. Heed all official security and traffic advisories.
