South Africa: Ongoing flight disruptions affecting Cape Town International Airport as of early April 18

Ongoing flight disruptions affecting Cape Town International Airport, South, Africa as of early April 18. Flight delays, diversions ongoing.

Warning

Event

Officials have warned of ongoing air traffic delays and flight diversions affecting Cape Town International Airport (CPT) as of early April 18. The disruptions are reportedly due to a fiber network fault affecting landing guidance systems, which are especially needed as of April 18 because of ongoing adverse weather conditions. Technicians are currently working on resolving the fault; it is unclear when operations will resume.

Flight disruptions are ongoing and could continue over the coming hours. Delays are also possible in other South African airports; they will likely continue once the issue is resolved as carriers work to clear passenger and flight backlogs.

Advice

Confirm flights to and from CPT through at least April 18 as a precaution. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
