At least 14 people are reportedly dead due to an explosion at a mosque in Fayzabad, Badakhshan Province, June 8. Over 10 others are injured; the casualty count includes Taliban officials and is likely to rise in the coming hours. The blast reportedly took place around 10:50 during the funeral prayers of deputy governor Maulvi Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, who died in a targeted vehicle bombing June 6 claimed by the Islamic State (IS). No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the incident.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely to continue in the impact area in the coming hours. Investigations could result in localized business closures.

Fayzabad is approximately 155 km (96 miles) northwest of Kunduz city.
