India: Contractual public employees to commence indefinite work stoppage across Chhattisgarh State from July 3

Contractual government employees to begin indefinite strike in Chhattisgarh State, India, from July 3. Public service disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Contractual government employees will stage an indefinite strike across Chhattisgarh State from July 3 to demand the regularization of their employment status. Unless averted, the labor action will likely cause disruptions to state-level public services. Over 45,000 strike participants will reportedly join the work stoppage.

Although there were no immediate announcements for such gatherings, related demonstrations may occur, especially near prominent government buildings, public squares, and along major thoroughfares. Activists may stage protest marches, sit-in demonstrations, and block roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions. Larger gatherings will likely draw thousands of participants.

Security personnel will almost certainly monitor any protests, particularly near government buildings, and may attempt to disperse especially disruptive crowds. Isolated clashes between protesters and police, as well as among various opposing groups, cannot be ruled out. Localized business disruptions may occur in the event of prolonged industrial action and/or demonstrations.

Advice

Confirm public service appointments in advance. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard security precaution. If clashes break out, depart the area immediately. Do not attempt to cross roadblocks, as protesters may react violently. Allow additional travel time near protests. Heed all official security and transport advisories.
