Event

Japan's Emperor Naruhito and his wife Empress Masako will visit Indonesia, June 17-23. Some of the announced events are as follows:

  • June 19: Meeting with Indonesia's President Joko Widodo and his wife at the presidential palace in Bogor.

  • June 20: Visit the Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery.

  • June 21-22: Emperor Naruhito will travel to Yogyakarta, where he is expected to visit the Borobudur Temple, while Empress Masako will stay in Jakarta.

Increased security is likely in places where the emperor and/or the Eepress will visit. Authorities will probably erect checkpoints and roadblocks to facilitate the guests' movements, leading to localized traffic disruptions. Authorities could temporarily close airspace around Jakarta as the Emperor and Empress arrive and depart the city; flight delays are possible at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK), the likely transit point.

Advice

Heed all instructions of local authorities. Plan for localized traffic disruptions and flight delays. Seek alternative routes to avoid potential venues for high-level meetings. Allow additional time to reach destinations.
