Israel, Lebanon: Protests, clashes between Israeli soldiers and Lebanese protesters at Israel-Lebanon border, June 9

Increased security likely at Israel-Lebanon border following protests and clashes between Israeli soldiers and Lebanese protesters, June 9.

Warning

Event

Clashes occurred between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Lebanese protesters near Mount Dov, in Kfar Chouba and Shebaa Farm, along the Israel-Lebanon border on June 9. Lebanese protesters reportedly attempted to bypass security measures along the border in an area they perceived as contested. The IDF attempted to disperse the crowd with tear gas. Reports indicate that Israel, Lebanon, and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) deployed additional forces along the border.

Heightened security measures will almost certainly remain in place along the Lebanon-Israel border in the coming days. Transport and business disruptions are likely in the affected area. Further clashes between Israeli security forces and Lebanese citizens are possible, particularly if protesters ignore orders to disperse. Clashes between Israeli and Lebanese forces cannot be ruled out. Additional demonstrations may materialize along the Israel-Lebanon border and in the Palestinian Territories.

Advice

Avoid the Israel-Lebanon border in the coming days. Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Remain vigilant in all areas along the Lebanon-Israel border and the Palestinian Territories over the coming days due to the high potential for violence. Avoid any demonstrations that may materialize. Confirm the availability of transport and allow additional time to reach destinations in the vicinity of any demonstrations. Monitor local media and liaise with trusted contacts for updates on protest activity, as organizers may not announce plans in advance.
