Warning

Event

PNG Air (CG) has suspended flights to Wapenamanda Airport (WBM) in Enga Province as of June 13 due to civil unrest. Local accounts report that two tribes have been fighting in Wapenamanda District since June 11, with reports of arson in the area. The cause of the clashes and the number of casualties remains unclear. CG officials stated that the flight suspension will remain in place indefinitely until the situation is deemed safe. Air Niugini (PX) has not announced any cancellations.

Increased demand for flights to nearby airstrips or ground transport is possible. Ongoing communal clashes in Wapenamanda could also impact other airlines' flights, including Air Niugini (PX).

Wapenamanda is approximately 85 km (52 miles) southeast of Porgera.

Advice

Consider avoiding nonessential travel to the impacted area until tensions subside. Monitor local media for updates. Contact airlines to reconfirm flight reservations to and from WBM; book alternative travel arrangements if required. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
