Warning

Event

LGBTQ activists plan to stage marches and other commemorative events across the Philippines, June 23-25. Marches typically pass through major thoroughfares, public squares, and government buildings. Organizers have announced marches from the following event venues:

  • Social Circle, San Jose City: 15:00 June 23

  • Fuente Osmeña Circle, Cebu City: 14:00 June 24

  • Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City: 15:00-18:00 June 24

  • Globe Circuit Event Grounds, Makati City: 16:00 June 24

  • Odiongan Landmark to OSCES Open Ground, Romblon: 15:00 June 25

  • Plaza Divisoria Amphitheater, Cagayan de Oro City: 15:00 June 25

  • Heritage Plaza, Mandaue City: 16:00 June 25

The largest events will occur in Metro Manila. Organizers expect around 50,000 people to join the march in Quezon City, while a previous similar demonstration in Makati City drew around 29,000 participants. Other rallies are likely to draw a few hundred participants.

While the events are likely to pass off peacefully, minor isolated skirmishes cannot be ruled out at larger gatherings. Police will likely deploy to monitor and facilitate well-attended events. Officials will likely impose security cordons and traffic diversions and reroute or curtail public transport serving the areas near large planned gatherings. Road closures could lead to increased congestion and traffic delays on alternative routes. Localized traffic disruptions are also likely as participants enter and leave the venue of large rallies. Skirmishes may break out, especially if demonstrators breach security cordons or raise politically sensitive issues.

Advice

Exercise caution around event venues as a precaution. Allow additional travel time to reach destinations near rallies; seek alternative routes if necessary. Monitor local media for updated information about march routes and road conditions. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
