Russia: Authorities reportedly deploying extraordinarily tight security in Moscow, Rostov, and other cities as of early June 24

FLASH: Russian authorities reportedly deploying extraordinarily tight security in several cities as of early June 24.

Critical

Event

The Russian government has reportedly deployed extraordinarily tight security in several of the nation's major cities as of the early hours of June 24. Preliminary information indicates that authorities have implemented the "Fortress Plan" in Moscow and Rostov-on-Don, and possibly also in Saint Petersburg, Krasnodar, Belgorod, and Bryansk. The Fortress Plan provides for elevated security near certain governmental and critical infrastructure facilities due to the potential for attack. The exact extent and nature of the situation as yet remains unclear; however, the move comes after authorities reportedly opened a criminal case against PMC Wagner Group head Yevgeniy Prigozhin.

This is a developing situation; additional information will be issued as warranted.

Advice

If operating in Russia, and in major cities in particular, limit outdoor movements until the situation become clear. Strictly heed the instructions of local authorities.
