Warning

Event

The LGBTQ community plans to hold marches and other gatherings in multiple cities across several South American countries July 1-2 as part of their annual Pride Month observance. Marches typically follow major thoroughfares, often passing through public squares and near government buildings. Organizers have confirmed the following events:

  • Lima, Peru: March from Campo Marte to Plaza Alameda 28 de Julio starting at 15:00 July 1

  • Quito, Ecuador: March from the intersection of Avenida Francisco de Orellana and Avenida Rio Amazonas to the Casa de la Cultura starting at 15:00 July 1

  • Guayaquil, Ecuador: March from the intersection of Malecon and Olmedo streets, to Parque Centenario along Avenida 9 de Octubre starting at 16:00 July 1

  • Bogota, Colombia: March from the Bogota City Council to Parque Simon Bolivar starting at 12:00 July 2

  • Medellin, Colombia: March from Avenida Las Vegas to Parque de las Luces starting at 10:00 July 2

  • Caracas, Venezuela: March from Parque Miranda to Plaza Venezuela starting at 08:00 July 2

Previous similar events have drawn very large numbers of participants, prompting localized transport and business disruptions. While the marches will likely remain largely peaceful, minor isolated skirmishes cannot be ruled out if counterdemonstrators attempt to assemble nearby. Police will likely deploy to monitor and facilitate the events.

Advice

Exercise caution around event venues as a precaution. Allow additional travel time to reach destinations near announced march locations; seek alternative routes if necessary. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
