Lingering flight delays and cancellations are likely at airports in Central and South Florida after thunderstorms prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue a ground stop for Orlando International Airport (MCO) and a ground delay averaging 85 minutes for Tampa International Airport (TPA) June 21. The ground stop at MCO is in effect until at least 17:15 and the ground delay at TPA is in effect until at least 21:59; either air traffic control measure could be extended on short notice. The FAA had also reported average departure delays of 30 minutes and increasing for Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Lee County, Florida, near Fort Myers, as of around 16:30.

The FAA may issue additional ground stops and/or ground delays in Central and South Florida over the coming hours.
