Lingering flight delays and cancellations are likely at airports in parts of northern and southern Texas after thunderstorms prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue ground delay programs for airports in the region June 21. Ground delay programs are in effect for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) until at least 20:59 EDT and for Dallas Love Field (DAL) until at least 22:59 EDT. Departures to DFW are reportedly experiencing average delays of 37 minutes, and departures to DAL are experiencing average delays of 57 minutes; departures from DFW are delayed an average of 30 minutes and are increasing, and departures from DAL are delayed an average of 45 minutes and are decreasing. The air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.
The FAA may issue additional ground delay programs or ground stops for airports in northern and southern Texas that are impacted by severe weather over the coming hours, potentially including Houston-area airports.
