A magnitude-6.5 earthquake occurred near the coast of eastern El Salvador at 18:22 July 18. The epicenter was about 43 km (27 miles) south of Intipuca, El Salvador. The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 70 km (43 miles). Strong to moderate shaking likely occurred near the epicenter in southeastern El Salvador and far western Nicaragua, while light shaking may have occurred in the rest of El Salvador, southern Honduras, and the rest of western Nicaragua.
