Papua New Guinea: Air Niugini flights canceled at Kagamuga International Airport, Mount Hagen, as of July 21

Air Niugini suspends flights at Kagamuga International Airport, Papua New Guinea, as of July 21. Additional flight cancelations likely.

Warning

Event

Air Niugini (PX) has cancelled three flights, as of July 21, due to the unavailability of firefighting vehicles at Kagamuga International Airport (HGU), Mount Hagen, Western Highlands Province. PX officials said they are working with relevant authorities to establish an alternative safety plan since July 20, but has not provided a timeline for when services will resume. Additional air carriers may suspend flights to and from HGU in the coming days.

Flight disruptions are likely to continue in the coming days. Nearby airstrips or alternative ground transport may experience increased demand. Residual flight disruptions are likely when normal services resume as the airline works to clear passenger backlogs.

Advice

Reconfirm flights at HGU. Plan for increased demand for alternative routes. Do not check out of accommodation before confirming onward travel.
