Spain: Unionized airport security staff to commence indefinite strike at Barcelona-El Prat Airport starting Aug. 10

Airport security staff to launch indefinite strike at Barcelona-El Prat Airport, Spain, starting Aug. 10. Security check delays likely.

Warning

Event

Unionized security staff plan to begin an indefinite strike at Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) Aug. 10. The purpose of the action is to protest perceived employment contract breaches by management. Security personnel will suspend work daily at the facility during the following three time frames: 04:00-07:00, 09:00-11:00, and 16:00-18:00.

Unless averted, the work stoppage may cause severe delays in clearing airport security. Associated flight disruptions cannot be ruled out. Spanish authorities have as yet mandated no guaranteed minimum service levels to mitigate the impact of the strike.

Advice

Arrive at the airport early to allow ample time to clear security. Contact air travel provider to confirm status of specific flights.
