Reports indicate that at least 12 Security and Defense Force (SDF) personnel were killed in the attack, with several others injured; the targeted unit was participating in a security operation at the time of the incident. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the incident.

Context
While the assailants' identity remains unclear, there has been an uptick in attacks attributed to Islamist militants in northern areas of countries in the region, including Togo, Cote d’Ivoire, and Benin, in recent years.
