Brazil: Disruption likely during Amazon summit and related events in Belem, through Aug. 9

Events are scheduled to take place throughout the city. The summit will occur Aug. 8-9; representatives from 15 countries will meet to discuss the protection of the Amazon.

Increased security measures are likely for the duration of the summit and related events, including traffic and parking restrictions. Access to summit venues will likely be subject to cordons and increased security. Protests and marches may take place with little warning. Events are likely to be well attended. Roads between the airport and central Belem will also likely be disrupted during the arrival and departure of international leaders. Protests are likely to pass off peacefully.
