France: Unionized rail employees staging strike across Sarthe Department, Aug. 5-8

Unionized rail employees staging strike across Sarthe Department, France, Aug. 5-8. Confirm rail services.

Warning

Event

Unionized rail employees are staging a strike Aug. 5-8 across the Sarthe Department to protest planned job relocations. Rail network operator SNCF has stated that train services in the Le Mans area are significantly disrupted on Aug. 5, with normal services expected elsewhere in the region. Disruptions for the following days are to be published on the SNCF Pays de Loire website at 17:00 daily. The link is available here.

The lines impacted on Aug. 5 are as follows:

  • 21 (Le Mans - Angers)

  • 22 (Le Mans - Laval)

  • 23 (Nogent-le-Rotrou – Paris)

  • 24 (Alencon – Caen)

  • 25 (Chateau-du-Loir – Tours)

  • 27 (Laval – Rennes).

Trains are subject to delay and cancellation. Services which do operate are likely to be more congested than usual. Increased demand for alternative forms of transport could lead to increased road traffic congestion and reduced taxi availability during the strike. Workers may stage related protests in city centers, outside rail stations, or outside rail operator offices. Lingering disruptions are likely after the strike as operators reposition rolling stock.

Advice

Reconfirm travel bookings in and around Sarthe Aug. 5-8. Consider using alternative transport for time-sensitive travel. Allow extra time to reach destinations due to increased traffic congestion and demand for alternative transport. Exercise caution near any protests that may arise.
