The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party plans to rally near Madurai Aug. 20. The rally is slated to occur 06:00-21:30 in the Valayankulam area, on the southwestern outskirts of the city, immediately south of Madurai Airport (IXM). The action is part of AIADMK's 50th-anniversary celebrations; organizers have stated they expect up to 1.5 million people to attend the event.

Given the size of the event, authorities will almost certainly deploy additional personnel to monitor the rally and manage the movement of people and traffic, Localized transport disruptions are likely, as are disruptions to access and egress at IXM due to the presence of large numbers of people. Significant violence is not anticipated, but scuffles cannot be discounted if protests by opposing political groups occur.
