Informational

Event

Freight truck drivers continue to report disruptions on the Kyrgyz side of the Ak-Tilek, Ken-Bulun, Chon-Kapka, and Sypatay Batyr border crossings between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan as of Aug. 25. The delays have reportedly been prompted by Kazakh authorities implementing enhanced checks on trucks entering the country from Kyrgyzstan; vehicles entering Kyrgyzstan are reportedly unaffected. Kazakh authorities state that additional checks have been implemented to combat illegal border activity. Long queues of cargo trucks have been reported at the affected border crossings.

The duration of the enhanced checks is currently unclear. Further freight disruptions are likely.

Advice

Anticipate protracted commercial trucking disruptions if shipping overland freight to or through Kazakhstan via the Ak-Tilek, Chon-Kapka, Ken-Bulun, and Sypatay Batyr checkpoints in the coming days. Consider using alternative routes. Heed instructions from authorities.
