Context

The threat of kidnapping in Malaysia, including Klang, remains moderate. Kidnap-for-ransom incidents occur occasionally, but the targeting of foreign nationals remains rare. Kidnappers typically target individuals perceived to be affluent or capable of providing ransom, along with instances of business rivalry involving the Malaysian-Chinese community. Express kidnappings, where victims are abducted briefly to withdraw money from ATMs or provide valuables, also occur occasionally. These incidents usually occur in isolated areas or during late-night hours.
