Authorities have confirmed that the gunman connected with an hours-long standoff that occurred in the Garfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Aug. 23 is dead. Deputies from the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office were attempting to serve an eviction notice at a residence in the vicinity of Broad Street and North Mathilda Street when the suspect opened fire at them from inside the home at around 11:00. Authorities reported that the suspect subsequently barricaded himself within the residence amid the standoff and that hundreds of rounds were fired. Responding officers evacuated residents from the 4800 block of Broad Street and cut power to the immediate area amid the shootout. One police officer sustained a non-shooting injury amid the incident. Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services declared that the suspect was deceased at 17:08.

Residual heightened security measures and transport disruptions are possible in the area over the coming hours.
