Authorities have temporarily suspended commercial flights at Charleston International Airport (CHS) in North Charleston, South Carolina, as of Aug. 1 after a helicopter owned by the Charleston County Sheriff's Office crashed near the facility. No casualties were immediately reported in connection with the incident. CHS officials have asked travelers planning to fly via the airport to check in with their respective airlines before arriving at CHS. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a ground stop for the airport that is in effect until at least 18:00; the measure could be extended or rescinded on short notice.

Numerous and significant flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, are likely at CHS over the coming hours.
